Jobs in the Community
In The Giver jobs are very important to the Community. Jobs are selected by the Committee of Elders (Lowry, 16).The Committee of Elders observe kids until they reach eleven to chose what job would best fit them (Lowry, 16). Jobs are announced at the Ceremony of Twelves where they are old enough for a job (Lowry, 52). Below I listed all the jobs in the Community of The Giver.

William and I are very different people with all different kinds of characteristics that make us different. I think I would make a great Nurturer for several reasons. The Nurturer has a big job that takes responsibility. They are responsible for every child born until they are able to go into a family (Lowry, 7). This means they have to do everything for the children such as feeding them, clothing them, playing with them, and a lot more (Lowry, 7). I often spend time with my neighbor's grandchildren. We do several activities together, but I also help them with school, changing, and feeding them. I enjoy it. I think I would make the perfect nurturer. William thinks he would make a great engineer. William likes math and building things and he is also good at them. Engineer's in The Giver love building and designing anything and everything (Lowry, 47). Engineer's have a very important job (Lowry, 47). William loves to design all types of things. He would also wanna be an Engineer because it runs in his family.
